Food Contact

All Packaging Materials and Non-Food Chemical Products used in Canadian Registered Food Establishments must receive approval from the establishment’s Inspector-In-Charge. Manufacturers must provide a guarantee to the Inspector their product is safe for the intended purpose when used according to directions on the label.

A Letter of No Objection, issued by the Food Directorate of Health Canada, accompanying such a guarantee, assures acceptance by the Inspector. Some products, such as hard surface sanitizers or disinfectants, may also require registration by the Drug Directorate of Health Canada and/or the Pest Management Regulatory Agency prior to a listing.
